Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common male sexual dysfunction and affects men of all ages. It may be lifelong (primary) or acquired following a period of normal sexual function. Contributing factors include anxiety, relationship issues, hypersensitivity, and serotonin levels.
Treatment options include behavioral techniques (pause-squeeze, stop-start), pelvic floor exercises, topical desensitizing agents, and medications such as SSRIs or tramadol. A combination of treatments often produces the best outcomes. Most men see improvement within weeks of starting treatment.
